So J1939 is an industrial vehicle communications protocol. It’s used for all kinds of industrial vehicles including mining, forestry, agriculture, oil and gas, military, it’s actually used on ships as well. Really any diesel engine will utilize the J1939 protocol.
So this is a protocol that’s the actual communications language and it runs over something called CAN bus which is the physical layer. So if you consider the telephone as the medium that would be CAN bus and then your language which would be English or French or Portuguese, that would translate to the J1939 protocol.
So J1939 is important protocol here at Dycor because we developed the SmarVue controller to work within that environment so that we can read all of the engine parameters that are on an industrial vehicle, connect that with other sensors and utilize that data to allow an operator to make decisions.
