Ongoing Remote Monitoring and Logging Innovation

From environmentally sound remote power solutions, to environmental data-logging of wastewater or tailings ponds; geo-technical logging of land stability, or remote equipment control, Dycor’s remote stations set the standard for performance, longevity, and capability.  Our expertise in remote panel construction comes as a result of continued development, testing, and innovation.

Dycor Remote Environmental and Process Monitoring Panels are used all over North America experiencing some of the harshest climates in the world. In addition – these panels must operate in locations of great sensitivity where the impact of their maintenance and operation is subject to significant scrutiny.  To continue to provide the most capable, dependable, and consistent remote monitoring and control solutions – we actively test new cutting edge power options, processing and control systems, and edge computing capabilities including imaging and video to provide remote site operators the most detailed and dependable field information possible, while requiring the smallest possible ecological footprint, both physically, and in a world conscious of our Carbon-use responsibilities.

We strive to offer the latest technology and proven functionality for:

  • Environmental monitoring
  • Water Quality and Flow monitoring
  • Real-Time Weather Monitoring
  • Screw Piling Data Logging & Control
  • Radio and Power Support Systems
  • Building Monitoring (HVAC, Power, Water)
  • Forestry Services Controlled Burn Data Logging & Control
  • Observation Wells for SAGD Operations
  • Oil Rig Maintenance Monitoring

Remote Monitoring Panel Test Station Goals

Real Time testing data is being collected round the clock on new implementations and technology using our testing stands at Dycor Headquarters. Our goal includes evaluating new technology, testing unique hardware and software configurations.

Our focus in these test towers is to provide daily test data on the following technology elements:

  • Comparative analysis of Solar Power and Battery performance using a pyranometer to determine solar intensity and correlation to charging.
  • Comparative testing of Charge controllers in a real world application, in fluctuating ambient temperatures at the edges of practical applications.
  • Evaluation and suitability testing of low carbon-footprint power solutions, including methane and hydrogen fuel cell technology.
  • Development and utilization of secure networking using Freewave ZumLink radios to evaluate data speeds, dropout rates, and other critical parameters.
  • Showcasing dataTaker systems for collecting data from the onboard systems, and providing complete data access to the real time data using the aforementioned sensors and communication solutions.

Dycor will use this aggregated data to provide solutions to clients that can withstand the rigors of the Canadian or Northern environment, while delivering the power and communications capability required for these stations in real-world applications.

Why is Dycor undergoing this ‘real world’ testing?

Simply put – because our customers expect it!  We work with mission critical hardware in Mining, Forestry, Oil and Gas, and Environmental applications.  Our remote stations must contend with extremes that the Alberta climate is completely capable of delivering – with sustained temperatures below -35C (-32F) and above 30C (86F) ambient temperatures coupled with internal panel temperatures over 45C (113F).  Due to our northern latitudes, we can test power solutions in the incredibly dim winter period where we can see under an hour of solar energy delivery per day, and the potential for snow, ice, and frost on equipment in remote locations which may not even be reachable without specialized equipment for months at a time.

As a result – Dycor is building a body of knowledge and experience on configurations, hardware selection, software and more.

Testing parameters

During all testing, we are monitoring data points that will help us identify real world application parameters, as well as solar panel, battery and charge controller performance.

  • Solar intensity (via Pyranometer)
  • Panel enclosure temperatures
  • External (ambient) temperatures using shielded RTD sensors
  • Winds and RH (relative humidity)
  • Battery enclosure temperatures
  • Battery and charge voltage, solar and charge current
  • Discharge performance
